The Quiet Land

Mules, Resting

Medium Watercolor and wax crayon on wove paper
Paper 140 lb cold-press cotton
Size 13¼ × 21 in
Painted 2024

Mules sleep standing up, which makes them the most patient models I have ever had. Their coats are not brown at all. In that light they were violet, roan, oxblood, and a gray-blue I still cannot name. The willows were painted with the side of the brush and one deep breath each.
