A schooner takes on barrels from a small red boat on pale sea-glass water, the sky a single milky wash, sails hanging slack in the heat

Taking on Provisions

Medium Watercolor and graphite on wove paper
Paper 300 lb cold-press cotton
Size 13⅞ × 21¾ in
Painted 2025

Milk-white sky, sea like frosted glass: the kind of flat hot morning when sound carries across the whole anchorage and you can hear the barrels knock against the hull. Almost everything here is one gray-green, stretched as far as it will go. The red boat carries all the color the day actually had.
